VOYG didn’t start with venture capital, a design degree, or a perfectly mapped-out plan. It started with a promise to my mum – and a frustration I couldn’t shake.

Held At Gunpoint At The Turkish Border

It sounds like the start of a movie, but for my mum, it was just another chapter in her travels.

Mum has always been a traveller. Backpacking with my dad. Road-tripping across Africa with four kids bouncing around in the back seat. She believed travel shaped who you become, and every new country was a lesson.

But when she became a mum, adventure took a back seat. Safety became her priority. I watched her carry that weight on every trip, scanning crowds, checking locks twice, never fully relaxed.

The Bag That Started It All

Years later, when us kids were grown and mum finally had the freedom to travel for herself again, I wanted her to feel protected.

So before her 2022 Europe trip, I searched everywhere for the perfect anti-theft bag. But everything fell short: flimsy zippers, cheap materials, fake RFID. None of it gave me the confidence she deserved.

So I thought: What if we just made our own?

I Had No idea What I Was Doing

I didn’t have a design degree. I didn’t have money. But thanks to my parents, I had experience as a traveller, I knew what worked when you're navigating a crowded market or rushing through a train station at midnight.

So I tested fabrics, obsessed over locks and hidden compartments, and I asked for feedback. From friends, fellow travellers on the road, and of course, mum.

Piece by piece, we built a bag that finally gave her the confidence she deserved. Tougher than anything else on the market.

What began as a single bag for my mum has grown into a brand trusted by over 150,000 travellers.
